Random superpower generator
The random superpower generator draws from 200 written abilities, and every one of them carries a one-line effect and a stated weakness. Draw a single power and both lines print under it on the card. Filter by 9 categories and three power levels, or generate a whole batch. Nothing in the bank belongs to a comic, film, game or show.
Ways to use the random superpower generator
Give a character a power you would not have picked
Writers stuck on a hero reach for flight or super strength. Pull three at random instead and build the character around what came up.
Roll abilities for a tabletop or solo game
Draw a power per player at session start, or hand every NPC one. The stated weakness gives you the counter before anyone asks for it.
Set a drawing or design challenge
Generate a power and design the person who has it — the costume problem for magma skin is nothing like the one for swarm form.
9 categories, three power levels
Narrow to one kind of power
Elemental, Physical, Mental & psychic, Energy & force, Space & time, Transformation, Senses & nature, Magic & supernatural, and Absurd & useless. Load one as a ready list or set the category filter.
Low, Medium, or Epic (49 epic powers)
Low powers are small and local — 68 of them. Medium powers win a fight but have a clear limit. Epic powers change the shape of a story. Every category holds all three tiers, so no filter pair comes back empty.
Absurd and useless superpowers
People ask for the dumb powers as often as the great ones. So 24 of the 200 abilities here are useless on purpose, and they sit behind their own filter. Other generators bury a few jokes in a beginner tier with no way to ask for them.
Load the Absurd & useless list, or set the category filter, and every draw comes back silly. Here is the whole list.

How the random superpower generator works
Choose the pool
Draw from all 200 abilities, or load one of the 9 category lists or three tier lists first.
Set the count and press generate
Take one power, or a batch. A batch never repeats an ability, and Avoid repeats keeps drawn powers out of later rounds.
Read the effect and the weakness
A single power prints both lines under the card: what it does, and what stops it. A batch shows the names only, and the tables below carry every line. Copy a batch, share the list, or edit the pool and keep going.
Every power comes with a weakness
One ability from each category, exactly as it is written in the bank.
| Power | Category | What it does | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire control | Elemental | Shape and throw open flame. | Weakness: Nothing to burn means nothing to throw. |
| Super strength | Physical | Lift and throw far past human limits. | Weakness: Floors and handrails give out under you. |
| Telekinesis | Mental & psychic | Move objects with your mind. | Weakness: Heavy lifts bring on migraines. |
| Force field | Energy & force | Raise a wall of hard light. | Weakness: Anything already inside stays inside. |
| Teleportation | Space & time | Step from here to anywhere you have seen. | Weakness: Arriving inside something solid ends badly. |
| Shapeshifting | Transformation | Take the shape of any person you have met. | Weakness: Their voice takes practice you may not have. |
| Enhanced senses | Senses & nature | Hear a whisper and smell a lie. | Weakness: Loud rooms are agony. |
| Healing touch | Magic & supernatural | Close wounds with your hands. | Weakness: The injury moves to you for an hour. |
| Summon one sock | Absurd & useless | Call a single clean sock to your hand. | Weakness: Never the matching one. |
Power level is our editorial call, not a measurement. So is the weakness — it is there to give you the counter, the cost, or the joke.
Random superpower generator questions
What is in the bank, where it came from, and what you may do with it.
How many superpowers does this generator have?
200, split across 9 categories and three power levels. Every one was written for this page.
Are these superpowers taken from comics, films, or anime?
No. Every ability is a plain descriptive name that nobody owns, like telekinesis or fire control. No character, series, studio or publisher appears anywhere in the bank, and no category is named after one.
Can I use these powers in something I publish?
Yes. A generic ability name is not protected, so the names, the effect lines and the weakness lines are yours to use in a story, a game, a comic or a video.
Does every power come with a weakness?
Yes — all 200 of them. Growth gets you the height of a building and the problem of doors, floors and dinners. Rewind takes back ten seconds, but only you remember them.
What are some absurd or useless superpowers?
There are 24 in the Absurd & useless list. A few: talk to bread, jelly legs, instant cold pizza, summon one sock, faintly damp. Load the list to draw only from those.
What is the dumbest superpower?
Out of this bank, self-sorting drawer — one drawer in the house tidies itself, and it picks the drawer, never you. Endless battery runs close: one device near you never runs flat, and you never choose which.
Can you give me a list of unusual powers?
The Absurd & useless list is the short answer, and its 24 entries are all above. The Low tier is the next place to look: 68 small, limited abilities spread across every category. There is no list of a hundred unusual powers here — 24 written properly beat a hundred padded out.
Is there a superpower wheel?
Not as its own page. Generate a batch, copy it, and paste the powers into the wheel spinner to spin them.
The bank is written and maintained by us. Category and power level are editorial judgements. Nothing here is drawn from, named after, or affiliated with any published work.
